The 8th Annual traditional foods conference is approximately eight weeks away! The conference this year will be held in T̓sax̱is – Fort Rupert on Day 1 and, Dła̱ksiwe’ – Cluxewe Campground/Resort on Day 2. The dates are October 2nd and 3rd.
Our community partners in Fort Rupert have been busy harvesting nourishing traditional foods, including salmon and halibut, for everyone to enjoy at the conference. We are excited about how the conference agenda is shaping up. In line with previous years, the conference this year will be a 2 day event that will focus on hands on learning, sharing of successful initiatives from within the host community/Kwakiutl territory, and highlighting key inspiring Island projects. We are currently planning the details of the agenda, but a few highlights that we are hoping to have are an elders panel that will share their traditional foods memories and experiences, as well as hands on food skills including a plant walk, traditional foods fair and a pit cook.
We are very happy to be working with a small community on the North Island to host the conference this year. This is the furthest North that the conference has been hosted, and we hope to see many of you from other parts of Vancouver Island and surrounding regions, travel to this area that is very rich in culture and natural beauty.
